Editor's Note:
NBC11 reporter Damian Trujillo will be filing blogs from Mexico, as
part of his investigation into the death of the woman known as the
"Castro Valley Jane Doe." Follow his journey here. It's
midnight Tuesday, and I just finished a short briefing with
investigators of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office here at the
International Terminal of the Oakland Airport. We're taking the
red-eye flight to Guadalajara, Mexico. We arrive in Guadalajara at
6:25AM (4:25AM Bay Area time), and it'll be a full day after that.
We'll
need a two-to-three hour drive to the town of Yahualica, outside
Guadalajara. There, investigators from the Bay Area will meet the local
chief of police, and the Mayor of Yauhalica.Informants have told the investgators their "person of interest" lives in a town that is very dangerous to strangers. They will strategize on how they will visit that town to see if the individual is still there."The police chief promised us his full support", said Sgt. Scott Dudek, who is leading the Bay Area delegation. We are not sure if this trip to the "dangerous town" will be too dangerous for our news team. The detectives plan to have one big, or several small town hall meetings in and around Yahualica.Contrary
to previous thought, the detectives do not have one definite family
they will visit, whom they believe is related to Castro Valley Jane Doe.They will obtain DNA from people who come forward and say Jane Doe may be related to them. But they do know for a fact that the person of interest is originally from this area. And
detectives are hoping to return to the Bay Area with a suspect in cuffs
(after extradition), and with an answer as to who really is Castro
Valley Jane Doe, and unite her with her family.
